Editor’s Note: Earning It, Even in August

admin August 20, 2026 2 min read

I’ll admit it: I’ve been caught in the “August slump,” that quiet dip in motivation as summer winds down and the return to routine looms. This year, however, it arrived even though our summer never truly slowed down or gave us a proper rest.

In July 2026 we released two high‑profile lists – The Finance Frontier 2026 and 100 Agents Driving UAE Property Market Resilience – which sparked extensive conversation across their sectors and finally brought long‑overdue recognition to those who have earned it time and again.

If you, like me, need a boost of motivation this month, look no further: we showcase insights from two extraordinary entrepreneurs who built massive enterprises from nothing.

On page 40, Sir Martin Sorrell advises entrepreneurs that today’s competitive edge lies in human judgement: the ability to discern which idea, among the thousands an algorithm can generate, is truly worth backing. That’s the “what.”

On page 22, our cover story with Richard Fitzgerald, founder of Augustus Media, provides the “how.” Fitzgerald backed his own vision early – creating an independent, highly profitable Arab media business that focused on specialist media communities rather than merely amassing audiences. He repeatedly stresses that the idea alone wasn’t enough; disciplined execution carried it forward.

He insists that the path forward – Augustus Media now operates in more than 30 cities, employs over 140 people, and has become one of MENA’s largest independent digital media groups – follows the same disciplined playbook that got us here.

This issue also examines 18 tech IPOs that reshaped entire industries, from Apple to SpaceX, showcasing moments where a backed idea met the public markets and transformed sectors (p.32). We also celebrate Emirati Women’s Day 2026, highlighting the women driving the country’s economic narrative (p.14), and head to Abu Dhabi to check in on a startup scene that continuously produces founders willing to bet everything on a single, worthwhile idea (p.63).

Mark your calendar for September 17, 2026, when Entrepreneur Middle East will host its Tech Innovations Awards, gathering the most influential names across MENA’s tech innovation landscape.

Consider all these stories a reminder that motivation isn’t something you wait for; it’s something you build, tired or not.
